An overview of the common disk-drives CBM produced

drives with IEEE-488 connector
MODEL DRIVES DOS CAPACITY COMMENTS
CBM 2040 / CBM 3040 dual 5.25" 1.0 170 KByte write more blocks than CBM 4040 (670 blocks free), no relative files
CBM 4040 dual 5.25" 2.0 170 KByte reads 2040/3040 Disks, read and write compatible with 1541/2031/4031(664 blocks)
CBM 2031LP / 4031LP single 5.25" 2.6 170 KByte 664 blocks free, same as CBM 1541, but IEEE connector
CBM 8050 dual 5.25" 2.5 or 2.7 512 KByte disks are written on one side with double density (2052 blocks free)
CBM 8250 / 8250LP dual 5.25" 2.7 1 MByte write on both sides(4133 blocks), read 8050-disks, LP Version has smaller case
SFD 1001 single 5.25" 2.7 1 MByte same as CBM 8250LP, but only one drive and 1541-case
CBM 8060 / CBM 8061 dual 8" ??? 750 KB / 1.5 MB ---
CBM 8280 dual 8" 3.0 1 MByte ---
CBM D9060 / D9090 harddrive 3.0 5 MB / 7.5 MB ---
drives with serial connector
MODEL DRIVES DOS CAPACITY COMMENTS
VIC 1540 single 5.25" 2.x 170 KByte predecessor of CBM 1541, for use with VC20, transfer speed is faster than CBM1541
CBM 1541/1541-II single 5.25" 2.6 170 KByte standard-drive for C64, 1541-II has external power supply and smaller case
CBM 1570 single 5.25" 3.0 170 KByte read/write compatible with 1541, 1541-case, supports burst and CP/M mode if connected to C128
CBM 1571 single 5.25" 3.0 or 3.1 340 KByte same as 1570, but writes on both sides and has other case, build-in in C128D
CBM 1581 single 3.5" 10.0 800 KByte supports burst and CP/M mode if connected to C128, has external power supply
drives with other connector
MODEL DRIVES DOS CAPACITY COMMENTS
CBM 1551 single 5.25" 2.6 170 KByte same as 1541, but parallel-connector (for use with Plus4) and black case
